March 23, 2010 - Required Action for all GasAlertMicro 5 Series/X5 Series detectors

The GasAlertMicro 5 Series and X5 Series detectors require a mandatory firmware upgrade to address an irregularity in the current firmware. All detectors, regardless if used in pumped or diffusion mode, must be upgraded to 23C, 23i, or 37.

Once you click Download Firmware or Ship Upgrade Kit, you will be guided through the firmware upgrade process. For more information, please refer to the questions below or the more Information section on the right.

If you need to use your detector while waiting for the firmware upgrade, refer to the Interim Solutions or contact your BW representative.

How do I upgrade my detector's firmware?


  1. Click Download Firmware or Ship Upgrade Kit.
    2. If you choose to download the firmware, you will download a zip file and create a firmware upgrade card for your detector. If you choose to receive a firmware upgrade kit. Click here to view Interim Solutions to safely use your detector.
  2. Then follow the instructions to select the correct firmware and upgrade your detector. Supporting documents are supplied to ensure the process is easy to follow.

Why have different firmware versions been released?

Through continuous testing we learned that the firmware released in December 2009 and Februrary 2010 required an upgrade. All GasAlertMicro 5 Series and X5 Series detectors must be upgraded to the latest firmware (versions 23C, 23i, or 37).

What is the resolution?

BW has released firmware (versions 23C, 23i, or 37). You can download the firmware or receive a firmware upgrade kit.
